Awareness within Silence

No Alien Thoughts

Jun 7, 2011

Saying For Today: The Silence provides space for thought to arise into Awareness, like clouds in an otherwise clear sky.

Welcome to OneLife Ministries, an online, interspiritual-integral ministry of Arem Nahariim-Samadhi and Love Light Fellowship. This site is here to lead you into a heart experience of Divine Presence, Who is Love. We recognize that of the Sacred in each one and celebrate the diversity of expressions of our Oneness in Grace. We are for peace and nonviolence, and equal rights and justice for all. I hope persons of varied wisdom paths will find inspiration here. Welcome!

Blessings,

"In the silence, You are speaking.
In the quiet, I can feel the fire."

And think not you can guide the course of love. For love, if it finds you worthy, shall guide your course.

*Kahlil Gibran

A student of Jewish mysticism visited Rabbi Yaakov Yitzchak, of Lubdin, to get an answer about alien thoughts that would invade his mind and make meditation for him difficult. Rabbi Yitzchak asked, "And what thoughts trouble you?" The man listed many thoughts: his business was not as good as it could be, his customers owed him too much, his competitors were undermining his profit, his wife was not pleased with their livelihood, his daughters needed dowries, his son was not the wise student he had hoped that he would be, and so on. When he had finished, Rabbi Yaakov said, "Alien thoughts? My dear friend, these are not alien thoughts at all. They are thoughts quite at home in your mind!"

*Story drawn from Rabbi Rami Shapiro. Hasidic Tales.

Contemplative Silence does not introduce thoughts. The Silence provides space for thought to arise into Awareness, like clouds in an otherwise clear sky. Remain in Awareness.

Rabbi Rami Shapiro writes of this Silence in Hasidic Tales, "So what can you do? 'Commune with your heart and be still' (Psalm 4:5)." He explains this: "To commune with your heart is to be present to the thoughts and feelings that arise. Notice them, but don't engage them. That is what is meant by "'be still.'" Shapiro says, "Simply note it, and let it be."

Some meditation practice entails inquiry. Here, however, we have spoken of Contemplative Silence. We rest in Pure Awareness, what some theists call Union with God or Contemplative Prayer.

The Essence of LOVE-Mysticism is to look "within," to find there the Light of G-D That is in Everyone...
